PENNANT REPORTS

MAJOR PENNANTS
WEEK 4 – CAMDEN VS BAYVIEW

Our team had the difficult task of going to Camden to try and secure an away point which no one in our group has been able to do this season.
Hugh Webster played at reserve against an opponent who was at number six at Bayview the week before and he managed to win his reserve match 2&1… Stuart Webster was very competitive at N7 throughout his game being two up with five to play, but unfortunately, his opponent decided to start making birdies on the last few holes unfortunately and Stu ended up being beaten 2&1.

James Clendinning was brought back into the side to play at number six and as always, James fought very hard throughout his match, but unfortunately his opponent got the better of him 3&2.

Brent Lawrence resumed his position at number five which he has started to make his own and he put on an impressive round of golf to secure a 3&2 win.

Anthony Carter was promoted up the order to number four and proceeded to belt his opponent 6&5… Carter as he is affectionately known, has been very solid since his first weeks performance, which has been great to see!

They chucked some long haired old bloke in it number three, by the name of Mick Perry thinking that he could get it done, but unfortunately, the heat the walk and Mick’s peak physical condition worked against him to be beaten 2&1!

Our regular number two Ben Higgins who this year has decided to give himself a challenge each week by letting himself get four down after five holes more often than not, managed another magnificent comeback to be 2 down with three to play and win the last three holes to win his match one up this was a great performance from Ben as we had already lost the contest but being the team player that he is he fought it out right to the finish and managed to get that point.

Our number 1, RJ, was matched against a player that had 5 birdies at Bayview last week and still got beaten… so we were definitely expecting a contest, while the match was very tight neither player managed to birdie all day and RJ unfortunately took his first defeat of the season 3&2… and a quick suggestion to members is not to mention that to RJ as I think it’s a day he’s trying to forget!!! Whilst the loss was disappointing, The result wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been considering the conditions and being away, We still managed to win three games out there and we head back to Bayview for week 5 to take on Dunheved.

Week 5 – BAYVIEW V DUNHEVED

This week saw us take on Dunheved at Bayview for what we considered to be one of the most important matches of the season. We started week five at the top of the table, but only by individual game points. All teams were level on match points. A loss this week could’ve seen us playing our last match of the season facing relegation, but a win this week, meant that we could stay on top of the table with a win at Dunheved in week six getting us qualification into the semifinals.

The team seemed very focused from the start and knew the importance of this game, in the end, we ended up winning 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 mainly due to the fighting spirit of our pennant team and also the fantastic support that we received from Bayview members on Sunday.

It was fantastic to see such an amazing turnout, and the players definitely noticed the presence of that many supporters being around and I am sure that it lifted the team. We were down in five matches out of seven after 11 holes and we ended up winning 4 1/2 matches to 2 1/2.
Hugh Webster lead us out at number seven and played a very experienced opponent who managed to have four birdies in the first seven holes which is difficult at any number in a pennant side. To Hugh’s credit he managed to stay in the fight and ended up losing 3&1 on the 17th Hole.

Carter played at number six again this week, and didn’t have it very easy from the outset with Dunheved swapping their order around…Carter was playing a very tough opponent and while he was down early, he managed to fight back and hit a miraculous shot on the 18th hole from the drainage ditch to secure a half a point although he shouldn’t have been in the ditch in the first place!

Brent Lawrence, who still owns the number five spot, once again and took his opponent to task. Even with Dunheved  mixing their team order Brett managed to get the job done quite emphatically winning 4&3.

Adam Gaukrodger was playing at the number four position against an opponent who had played number 1 for Dunheved multiple times this season. This didn’t make any difference to Adam whatsoever and he was always on top, closing out his match 5&4!
Jacob Schouw was back at number three,  and had an opponent who was very particular apparently…I think this only fired Jacob up even more, and he beat his opponent 5&4 as well… it’s a real credit to Adam and Jacob to have such convincing wins against such strong opponents

Ben Higgins was once again our number two and unfortunately for Ben he suffered his first defeat in 2 1/2 seasons of Major Pennants, which is a massive achievement to go undefeated for that long in such a competitive competition. Ben, unfortunately got behind early and just couldn’t find a way back in. We know what a fighter Ben is and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger next week looking for revenge!

RJ once again played at No1. After a not so good start with a bogey on the first he never looked threatened in this contest and he won his match 3&2…should have been more!
So as it stands, we sit at the top of the table with the final round to be played this weekend where we travel to Dunheved for the return match. Our future is in our own hands as if we win at Dunheved this Sunday we make the semifinals for the first time in 13 years.

It was wonderful to see so many members and friends on the course last Sunday to support the team. This might not seem much but it’s a big deal for our team. We love the support, we love representing Bayview and we will let you know how things go at the end of next week, but hopefully our season isn’t over for a while yet.

If you see any of the team around the club before Sunday please make sure you wish them all the best for the weekend .

MISCORE AND MOBILE PHONE USAGE

I have only heard positive comments about the introduction of MI Score at Bayview and members are commenting that It certainly makes submitting scores much easier.

There was a time where use of Mobile Phones on course, during competitions, was not allowed at any time, however now we are using them to record scores I must remind all members of the following etiquette.

  1. Phones must be placed on silent mode at all times you are on the course.

  2. Calls, unless absolutely urgent, must not be made or answered at any time during competition

  3. If you have to take or make a call be mindful of how it may impact your playing partners or other golfers in your vicinity.

LATE CANCELLATION – NO SHOW POLICY

Due to an increase in the number of late booking cancellations and members not turning up to their tee times, on the day, a Late Cancellation & No-Show Policy at Bayview Golf Club will be introduced the week commencing Sunday 1st March. This policy addresses the issue of players failing to show up for their designated tee times or cancelling bookings on competition days. The intent is to promote respect, fairness and reliability amongst all members.  The responsibility to manage the members booking rests solely with the member not the person who makes the booking.

It is understood that situations such as illness or unforeseen personal or immediate family related circumstances occur from time to time and such events may prevent players from turning up for their tee time at late notice. It should be understood that the decision to accept such an explanation from the member will rest with, and be at the discretion, of the Match Committee or Golf Management.

The Club Captain, Match Committee or Golf Club Management may declare an extreme weather event and suspend the No-Show Policy for the affected competition.

The Policy will be posted on the notice boards in the club and will be attached to the BGC Website. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the details of the policy.

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER

A reminder we have recently added the Local Rules page to the MiScore App and at the top of this page we have listed the

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER.  8419 0600.

This is the number you dial if there is an emergency situation on the course as, when dialled, it calls all BGC phones which will result in a faster response to any emergency that occurs on course. Please save this in your phones just in case you need it.
